Machine a raised relief map of Silicon Valley
How to CNC machine a topographic relief model in wood
CNC machine a 3D relief model of Silicon Valley. (DP V7.1, 21.5 min)
This DeskProto tutorial explains step by step how you can create a geographic relief model with the DeskProto CAM software. Create a relief model of Silicon Valley (California, USA) by following these steps:
- download the CAD data (a bitmap file)
- convert this bitmap to a 3D relief
- calculate CNC toolpaths
- machine the model in wood
- engrave a text on the model
- view the detailed result.
The Silicon Valley bitmap is a free download, on the Free models page of this website. You can machine it on any size. For other areas you can create your own bitmap data, as explained in the Gallery project on Geographic reliefs.
