Machine a part from two sides
DeskProto's two-sided wizard helps you
Tutorial video that shows how to machine this frame from two sides, using wizard "Two sides, manual flip" (DP V6, 19 min)
Not all parts can be completed by machining a block of material from one side. The next step is to machine the part from two sides, by manually flipping the block upside down halfway the process. The complicated detail is to have the toolpaths for both sides exactly aligned. DeskProto features a wizard to help you, called "Two sides, manual flip".
This video shows how to use this wizard. The video was made in a previus DeskProto version (V6), as the process has not changed it still offers useful information.
The picture frame is a free sample STL file, that is present in every DeskProto download.

This second picture frame tutorial video shows how to create a complete frame by machining from two sides: in the back-side of the frame a cavity is machined, meant for glass, the picture and a piece of cardboard.
You can see how to use the DeskProto wizard "Two sides, manual flip" to create the toolpaths, how to fine-tune the wizard's settings, how to fixture the material on the machine, the actual machining, and the result.
The material used in this video is red cedar wood.
This video applies to the Expert edition and Multi-Axis edition of DeskProto, as the other editions do not offer the two-sided milling wizard.
