Easy V-Carving with DeskProto
How to create a V-Carved sign on your CNC machine, using Inkscape and DeskProto.
Explaining about V-Carving in DeskProto Version 8 (DP V8.0, 13.25 min)
This tutorial video introduces V-Carving, a powerful new feature in DeskProto Version 8, showcasing how to create stunning signs with minimal machining time. V-Carving is an ingenious way of using a CNC milling machine: with a V-shaped cutter you can machine a 2D vector drawing with only one very short toolpath. You need to use a CAM program that offers V-Carving: this video shows how easy this is using the DeskProto CAM software.
The video shows how to create a simple nameplate: perfect to be used on the door of a child's bedroom. First an explanation is given how V-Carving works. Next it is shown how to create your design, using the free Inkscape graphics software, and export it as SVG file. The third part shows how to load this SVG file in DeskProto, create toolpaths and save these in an NC file. Finally the CNC machining process is shown, and the resulting wooden sign. It says "William", you can of course use any name.
