4-axis machining a cabriole leg in DeskProto V8
Rotary CNC toolpaths that reach below the rotation axis
CNC machining a cabriole (curved) table leg with DeskProto (DP V8, 23 min)
Using the DeskProto CAM software for standard rotary machining (with the machine's fourth axis) has been explained in the Venus tutorial video.
This new video is about a more complex situation, when the cutter needs to travel below the rotation axis. In many CAM programs this is not possible, in DeskProto it is. The video shows machining a curved table leg (cabriole leg) on a SainSmart 4040 CNC machine, using DeskProto Version 8.
The geometry that is used ais a Lion table leg: a free download from CNC design hub. The video explains the settings in the DeskProto CAM software, how to deal with some typical problems that will arise, shows the milling process and finally shows the result: a beautifully curved wooden table leg.
Rotation axis machining is possible only in the Multi-Axis edition of DeskProto.
This DeskProto video is on HD quality (1920x1080 pixels).
Subtitles are available and can be switched on, in English and in Dutch.
