Configuring the DeskProto Lab license
Registry setting, for system administrators (Windows only)
DeskProto stores all defaults and preferences in the user settings section of the registry (HKCU = HKEY_CURRENT_USER), on the PC on which DeskProto is running. As in most cases every student will log on with his/her personal account, this means that for a Lab License each student will start without defaults. DeskProto will then ask to select a machine, units and preferred project type. Which is not convenient, as at that time the student may not know what to select.
In order to solve this we have made DeskProto read these defaults from the computer settings section of the registry (HKLM = HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE) - only in case no defaults are present in HKCU. DeskProto will then store the settings in HKCU, so this will happen only the first time that a user starts DeskProto.
So these HKLM registry settings need to be present on every PC in the lab. In order to accomplish this we added a feature that allows system administrators to write these settings to HKLM. Export to HKCU can be done as follows:
- Start DeskProto with Administrator privileges
- Open Options > Preferences -> Advanced -> Settings
- Keep "Ctrl + Alt" pressed
- Press the "Export" button.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Delft Spline Systems\DeskProto\7.1\containing the Defaults, Preferences and Settings of the DeskProto that was started.
This can of course be done on each PC one by one, however it will be easier to use some network administration tool to copy these HKLM settings to all PCs in the network.
