Is it possible to perform side machining on a spindle so the cutter travels beside the part(spindle) as it cuts. I have linked a facebook video if you can access it. It looks like it is the outside of a vector of the spindle the tool is following while the rotary is turning thereby making short work of making a round part because a lot more of the cutter is being used rather than just the bottom. https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1BuKC2bX6Y/ |

Hi Dan, That should be possible, however not as advanced as in the video. One of the special cutters that you can define is the Horizontal cutter: Options > Library of cutters > OK on warning > Add > Select type Special and press Settings. The Help button in this dialog will explain how this works, and also how you can apply this on a machine with a vertical cutter. This option (new in V8) has not yet been used much, so please share your experiences. Lex. |
