Is there any way to do rest machining in Deskproto? (I have 7.1 commercial). I've not seen any way to do that automatically and I thought I'd ask to make sure I wasn't overlooking something. Currently I'm working on a 4th axis rotary project that has a spiral shape so setting up multiple operations or areas isn't an option.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Dylan,

DeskProto does not offer rest material machining, so no need to search for such option. For roughing DeskProto offers layers (passes) and a skin, in a finishing operation the complete part will be machined without roughing layers.

Perhaps you can use an operation with a custom Area to be machined, set to include only the Areas that contain rest material.

Lex.

I've been scouring the forums for a topic like this, as a new customer of DeskProto V8 I am definitely a little disappointed. I'm trying to avoid needing to use Fusion, and that lovely monthly subscription.

Are there any plans to enable rest machining in DeskProto V8 or beyond?

Has anyone found a good way to achieve this in DP, to save countless hours of air milling?

Rest machining indeed is present on our wish list.
However, that list is long, and this is a difficult feature to implement. It is not scheduled for the near future, sorry.
