Dear John Smith,

This DeskProto newsletter email brings you news about a new DeskProto version.
Next it shows a website page with tips for some CNC machines. The newsletter ends with an amazing, very large user project.
Simply scroll down to read more. We hope that you will enjoy reading!

Drawing of dogbone corners We have released DeskProto Version 8.1
Laser engraving a bitmap image on a curved surface Many readers will be interested in the new Wizard for Inlays, as we received many requests to make creating inlays easier. Other new features are the option to create Dogbone fillets for sharp corners in vector curves, and the option to laser engrave bitmap images, also on curved surfaces. See the two images above.
You can find a list of new features on page New in DeskProto Version 8.1

DeskProto V8.1 is a free upgrade for users of Version 8.0  You can install the new version next to V8.0: installing will not affect the current version.

Detail of the machine library dialog Tips for some CNC machines
Screenshot of theTips&Tricks page of the DeskProto website Over the years we have received a lot of information about various CNC milling machines: especially about how to configure DeskProto for your machine. The web page Tip&Tricks shares this information: open it to see if your machine is listed.

More tips are always welcome: we do not have these machines in our small workshop so we depend on your information in order to inform other users.

Two large head on the float Gallery: Carnival parade float
The float as part of the carnival parade The carnival float (in Dutch een 'praalwagen') shown above was part of the 2026 carnival parade in the Dutch city of Bergen op Zoom. Each enormous head on this float has been CNC machined with the DeskProto CAM software, using a custom built CNC machine with a 4th axis (vertically oriented).
The Gallery page tells about this project in more detail. Including information about the machine, and a video of the float in the parade.

When you want to see more projects by DeskProto users: follow us on Facebook and/or Instagram.

Try for yourself with the latest DeskProto Free edition: it offers basic CAM functions free of charge!
It also offers the option to run any of the paid editions in trial mode. For guidance you can use the tutorials (both video and PDF) and the sample geometries.

Best Regards,

Lex Lennings.
