Dear John Smith,

We are happy to send you this next new issue of the DeskProto newsletter, about "CNC machining for non-machinists".  We hope that you will enjoy reading.

DeskProto splash creen in Polish, reduced in size. DeskProto now also in Polish !
The DeskProto Preferences dialog in Polish
DeskProto reseller Ekspertsoft has translated DeskProto in Polish, something that many users and potential users in Poland have asked for. Only the user-interface has been translated: manuals and help file still are in English. Polish is the 10th language that has become available.

You can download the Polish Setup from our website. After installation DeskProto will be in Polish, though in the Preferences you will be able to switch between Polish and English. The new version can be activated with your current license: licenses are valid for all languages. For Polish this needs to be a Version 7 license, as only DeskProto V7 has been translated.

video still of Insole video
In the 6 months after the latest newsletter mailing we have released three new DeskProto tutorial videos. Shown above is the video on creating Orthotic insoles. We have found that many podiatrists worldwide are using DeskProto to create their custom insoles, as DeskProto can generate the toolpaths fully automated. The short video (2 min) shows how this can be done.

DeskProto Version 7 has been completely re-programmed (using a toolkit called Qt) in order to make the code independent from Windows. As a result we now have:
- a version that runs under MacOS (we tested with V10.12 Sierra and 10.14 Mojave).
- a version that runs under Linux (only 64 bits, we tested with Ubuntu).

Any client with a paid DeskProto V7 license is welcome to test these new versions: the key on your current license will work for all three versions. Please email us if you want to join this test-program and have time to provide feedback. We do not yet have an expected release date for these new versions: that will depend on what the testers will find.

YouTube logo Two new DeskProto woodworking videos video still two CNC machined stools
View this nice video on 2D CNC machining a small stool (9 min). It shows the basics of 2D vector maching: intended for novice machinists, though nice for any viewer. The DXF design drawing of the stool (made by is a free download, so feel free to machine your own stool !

> Also new is a video on CNC machining a great Coat-Of-Arms relief (using DeskProto V7, to replace a 9 year old video with DeskProto V5), with the STL file also as free download.

DeskProto V7 updater Setup screen New Service releases for DeskProto Version 7
Since the latest Newsletter email (May 2019) two Bugfix Builds (Service releases) for DeskProto Version 7 have been released. The list of fixes for each release can be seen on the Buildhistory page.
Here you can also find a link to the Updater setup (which can only be used when V7 has already been installed). Download it and update your DeskProto V7 free of charge.

Custom rudders for racing yachts

Line drawing of a sailing boat
CNC-Service Herget from Germany uses DeskProto to create custom rudders and daggerboards for racing yachts. In this application the exact shape of the profile is critical: a foil shape will create the extra drag (lift) that is needed to achieve an outstanding result. Using DeskProto and a CNC milling machine guaranties the high quality that Herr Herget needs to deliver. You can read more about this project on the new Custom Rudders Gallery page.

Try for yourself and download the DeskProto Free edition from our website. To get started you can use the tutorials (both video and PDF) and the sample geometries.
This is all possible completely free of charge !

Best Regards,

Lex Lennings.
