Dear John Smith,
This newsletter email comes with important news: DeskProto will get a new
owner, which will open new growth options for the program. The newsletter also
mentions a new tutorial video, about machining a part from
two sides. Finally two inspiring user projects are shared with you.
The transfer to a new owner means that this will be the last newsletter email in this
format.
DeskProto will get a new owner !
DeskProto is doing well, in fact so well that it is growing too
large for my small company Delft Spline Systems. At the same time I
want to reduce my workload and take a step towards
retirement: I am 68 years of age, and have been
active with DeskProto for more than 30 years.
I am very glad to have found a reliable successor:
Vectric Ltd (England).
A company with a good reputation, that is passionate about CNC. For Vectric DeskProto will
be a valuable addition to its product range, as DeskProto
offers more advanced options for 3D machining and
for multi-axis machining. DeskProto will benefit from Vectric's
marketing power and development capacity: just what the program
needs right now. Vectric will keep supporting current users.
The short video above,
in which I announce this transfer, has been made for Vectric's
User Group Meeting in Nashville (USA) on Oct 2 and 3. The video is
high-res and can be shown full screen by pressing the Maximize button.
The transfer date is November 1st: from that date Vectric will be
the point of contact for all DeskProto questions.
Tutorial video: two-sided machining
Last month we have completed a new Tutorial video: about machining a part
from two sides, using DeskProto's wizard 'Two sides, manual
flip'. This video uses the Bottle.stl sample geometry and
applies as many default settings
as possible. A next video will cover the use of other settings.
Gallery: Customized baseball bats
Current advances in CAD/CAM technology make it possible to create
bespoke products (with a
custom shape that is unique for every client) for an affordable
price. This gallery project is a perfect example:
the handle of this baseball bat is shaped to fit the client's hand.
Made by DeskProto user Rayline baseball.

Gallery page.
DeskProto is a good tool to be used in such production line, as the toolpath
calculation can be done automatically: using command line
parameters, template projects and/or scripts.
Only the STL geometry is (slightly) different. This same type of automation
is also used by many podiatrists worldwide for the production of orthotic insoles.
Gallery: Religious artwork for cathedral
The photo above shows machining a capital, part of an
altarpiece for the Cathedral of Panama. The block
of linden wood is machined from four sides, using the machine's 4th
axis. The altarpiece is created by Taller de Arte Salmerón S.L.
(Spain), specialized in the creation, manufacturing, and restoration
of sacred and religious art. They found that
DeskProto is a perfect tool for their application.

Gallery page.
When you want to see more projects by DeskProto users: follow us on
Facebook and/or
Instagram.
Try for yourself with the latest DeskProto Free edition:
it offers basic CAM functions free of charge!
It also offers the option to run any of the paid editions in trial
mode. For guidance you can use the tutorials (both
video and
PDF)
and the sample geometries.
Best Regards,
Lex Lennings.
