Dear John Smith,

We are happy to send you this next new issue of the DeskProto newsletter, about "CNC machining for non-machinists".  We hope that you will enjoy reading.

Apple logo The DeskProto version for macOS is ready !

DeskProto now is also available for Mac users, as native 64 bits macOS application (macOS 10.12 or newer). Projects made on Mac and Windows are interchangeable. Licenses for DeskProto V7 can be used to activate DeskProto both on Mac and on Windows, so existing users can switch to a Mac without extra cost.
The software can be downloaded at www.deskproto.com: in the last step of the download process you can choose to download a Windows setup file (dp70-en.exe) or an Apple disk image file (dp70-en.dmg). More information about DMG files in the updated Tutorial book.

Apple logo The DeskProto for macOS release video
Screenshot of the video on YouTube
This release video shows a project that is done on a Mac: a simple vector project to machine the Apple logo. The screen capture shows DeskProto with the wizard Basic Vector machining, using strategy Pocketing to remove all material around the logo. The main screen of the video shows the actual machining process.

We are quite excited about this release, as so far almost no CAM software has been available for Mac. Please spread the word about this new release !

DeskProto V7 updater Setup screen Service release for DeskProto V7
The new macOS version was planned for last week, however we found that the code changes for macOS had caused a bug in the Windows version: on some computers DeskProto could crash when opening a DPJ file by double-clicking it or as command-line parameter. This bug is present in Rev 9683. It took a lot of time to fix it and create a new release: Rev 9702.

The list of fixes can be seen on the Buildhistory page. Here you can also find a link to the Updater setup (which can only be used when V7 has already been installed). Download it and update your DeskProto V7 free of charge. In the DeskProto Help menu you can find the option "Check for Update". It will tell you if you are using the latest build of the program.

DeskProto screenshot: small part of the Part parameters dialog One more rotary result shared
CNC machine statue in wood, still on the machine.
This DeskProto result is shared by Randall Newcomb (USA), who started using DeskProto in April this year and has become a regular user of the fourth axis options. About this small statue he says: "It seems that Groot was hiding inside this redwood 4x4." (Groot is one of Marvel Comics' fictional characters).
Thanks for sharing !

Try for yourself and download the DeskProto Free edition from our website. To get started you can use the tutorials (both video and PDF) and the sample geometries.
This is all possible completely free of charge !

Best Regards,

Lex Lennings.
