Hi,

I'm new here.
I want to add a new special tool: Tapered Ball Nose
Can't select such type of tool when I try to add a new one.
A little bit help ?

Nice cutter !
and a correct cutter definition in DeskProto.

Good choice.
I use these cutters all the time and they are stiff as hell,
allowing very nice speeds despite the small tip.

Curious: how do you know about the 3 degree cutting angle in that definition? Is that calculated, or in the cutter documentation somewhere?

If not specified in the data of the tool itself,
I calculate it from tip-diameter, shank-diameter and cutting-length.
Knowing that the tapper does not continue above the end of the blades but the shank-diamter is already reached in that point.

Mind the difference between cutting angle and included angle.

DeskProto uses the Cutting angle: the angle between the cutting edge and the center-line of the tool (also called ‘grinding angle’).
Some cutter manufacturers specify the Included angle: the angle of complete V-shaped profile, which is exactly twice the cutting angle.

Use the Help button in the cutter definition dialog for an explanation of all parameters, with a clear drawing.
